Rest In Peace David Berman

David Berman's work touched me deeply.  I'm thankful to have come into contact with it for it has greatly affected me and my own outlook and practice.  I never had the chance to meet him but seeing the Silver Jews in the early 2000s live meant a great deal.  I remember grinning ear to ear, happy for him that he had decided to face stage nerves (the reason, as I understood it, for them never performing live) and selfishly ecstatic to receive directly this body of work that he had made.  The Natural Bridge left an unremovable mark on my sense of song and self and stands as one of my favorite albums ever written.  Something in it makes the ear, the mind, the intellect squint to get its meaning and leaves one feeling like there's more still.  I've always felt that way and still do.  There's a complexity to its emotional palette and it doesn't quite sit clearly to one side or another.  Asymptotic as art may be this feels the closest to resembling life and the natural world as it can get.  Clearly we all have our own personal resonance and mine was very sympathetic to that of his work.  Thanks for the asymptote, David.  It's stretching further than you could have ever expected or intended.  I'm so fortunate to have gotten in the way of its light.
